Lesson 1.4 has taught me that one specific religion should not be considered more important than any other, no matter the amount of people that have faith in the religion or the religions age. World religions is used to categorize major religions apart from others, and was developed by scholars within the United Kingdom during the 1960’s. Dr. Wenger described how in the 1920’s the US would define religion in a way that would specifically go against the Native Americans method of practicing there beliefs, and how this affected their appeals for freedom. This is related to previous lessons and how I learned that major religions (such as Christianity) have some sort of social and cultural control. The most interesting thing I learned during this lesson is more about how Hong Kong is somewhat in a colonial situation. The one thing that I don’t completely understand yet is if Post-colonialism truly connects with religion.
